Controversial Russian documentary in UN sponsored film festival

We The Peoples Film Festival (8th-21st November 2014), organised and sponsored by the United Nations Association UK Westminster Branch, will host the screening of A Russian Fairytale and Q&A with director Jake Mobbs on Tuesday, 11 November 2014 at Ravensbourne University.

Filming Kolya

A Russian Fairytale is a powerful and controversial documentary that follows the lives of homeless teenagers from Perm. The film is a fascinating insight into the day-to-day lives of a group of youngsters born during or just after the break-up of the Soviet Union; they are the generation of Russian kids who ended up on the streets as a result of the turmoil. Each day it is getting more and more difficult for them to once and for all make a break from the life they’re leading…

Ksusha glueDirector Jake Mobbs  says: “The documentary is a character study of a group that, like any family/society, creates its own power structures, survival strategies and unwritten rules. With no loving guidance from parents, authorities or society, they are living in a situation reminiscent of William Golding’s ‘Lord of the Flies’ in which every individual has to fight for their right to be”.

The screening is a free event,  however ticket registration will be required. The details for ticket registration will soon be revealed via Facebook and Twitter.
