Introducing the Russky London KinoKlub

brat (2)Good news for all the Russian film lovers in London!

Academia Rossica is launching its KinoKlub, a great opportunity to stay tuned with the new movie releases in Russia. On top of that, they are bringing the First UK Retrospective of the controversial filmmaker Aleksei Balabanov, one of the greatest Russian directors of the last decades. You can download the Retrospective programme here.

The KinoKlub will start next Saturday February 1st at the May Fair Hotel Theatre (Stratton St, London W1J 8LT) with the following screenings:

    • Brother (16:30) – The opening film of the Balabanov retrospective presents the viewer with a gloomy topography of the 1990s Russia: drunken tramps, prostitutes, drugs and organised crime, and explores the question of what does it mean to be Russian in this post-“apocalyptic” society. Book your tickets here.
    • The Girl and Death (19:00) – A tale about time and love with a Russian flavour by Dutch director Jos Stelling, masterfully capturing the essence of the literature and aesthetics in the Russian Gothic. Book your tickets here.

See you all there next Saturday!
